Course Description

Teaching  has Level 2 Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools QCF. You may well be setting out to work or are already working in school as a teaching assistant.

You may find yourself referred to under the general title of ‘teaching assistant’ within your school, but you may also be called a classroom assistant, school assistant, individual support assistant, special needs assistant, or learning support assistant.

Please Note: a work placement is required to complete this course.
As part of this work placement you must first ensure that a member of staff with occupational competence is able to provide supervision and sign the witness testimonies, to prove you have achieved the work based learning outcomes of this course.  

These different job titles have come into effect due to the different types of work which assistants are required to do within the classroom.  These reflect the job roles which are now present in schools for learning support staff.  As you work towards this qualification, you will be developing your skills and expertise in a number of areas, and you will need to think about how the theory fits in with your experiences in the classroom.  As you gain experience and expertise in your work with children and young people, you may also find it a useful reference.To be awarded the  Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools. This is the starting qualifications for teaching assistant.

Level 3 Certificate Teaching and Learning in School (QCF)

Course Description
This provides successful students with a qualification listed on the National Qualifications Database.
The course aims to enable learners to understand the roles and responsibilities of those involved in supporting teaching and learning in schools, and provides an opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge required to do this effectively and in a self-directed way. It prepares learners to support the Teacher and the delivery of curriculum within a school, as well as developing skills to help children and young people to develop self-esteem, independence and skills for learning. It seeks to further develop professional and technical skills and knowledge, and an understanding of the importance of positive relationships within a school. The Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools leads to the full QCF qualification and provides progression into employment. Learners may also progress to achieve HLTA status. To be awarded the  Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools learners must achieve all of the mandatory units totalling 32 credits.

The course is designed for study by distance learning at work or at home. Students receive course manual, assignments and tutor support by mail and email. You can start at any time and plan your studies over a period of up to one year from the time of enrolment. In addition, students of this qualification will need to arrange and undertake a work placement of a minimum of 50 hours during their course.
